Printer Marks

Printer marks are graphic indicators that are added to artwork to aid in the production of a printed project. These marks guide and inform the printer by providing necessary instructions on size, registration of inks and colouring – all of which insure accuracy and consistency during a print run. You often see these graphic symbols on the bottom or inside tabs of packaged goods like cereal and tissue boxes.

The poster shown here was created by French graphic designer Fanette Mellier for the Cooper-Hewitt’s 2012 exhibit – Graphic Design: Now in Production. Her poster incorporates a wide variety of printers marks, both colour and black & white versions.
