Now that more and more people are working remotely, the home office has become an essential space. Studies have found that colours not only impact our mood, they can have a direct effect on our productivity. So what colour is right for your home office? As you might expect, there is no one right answer. Many people find light colours, such as whites, creams and soft greys to be calming and appropriate for the work environment. Whereas, others prefer an injection of colour in their workspace. Coloured walls can definitely lift your spirits and your creativity. Greens and blues, because of their association with nature, are often recommended by interior designers. Warm colours such as red, pink, orange and yellow will definitely spice up a room, but they’re not for everyone. And you should know that certain colours affect women differently than they do men. For example: many men have trouble with pink and orange. Deep hues of browns, blues and burgundies should be reserved for rooms where you plan to relax.

There are other ways to add a spark to your home office – consider a boldly-coloured piece of furniture, some engaging artwork or a book shelf filled with colourful volumes and objects. The addition of a plant or flowers is guaranteed to enliven a room. Patrick O'Donnell, brand ambassador at Farrow & Ball says, "A home office is likely to be a place you spend a lot of your day in, so it's important to consider colors that you are happy to be around for long periods of time." Experiment a bit and live with the new colour/s for a while to see what works best for your space. The right choices will make working at home more enjoyable and more rewarding.
