Yellow Brick Road

The city of Chicago now has its very own Yellow Brick Road. Although it is small in size, its significance is monumental. Bickerdike, a local nonprofit developer, has installed a 70 foot long sidewalk of yellow bricks in front of 1667 North Humboldt Boulevard – the location where “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" author Frank L. Baum once lived. The Humboldt Park neighbourhood chose to pay homage to this famous former resident even though the house where he penned the best selling children’s book no longer stands. The developer also plans to erect a mural entitled “There’s No Place Like Home” adjacent to the sidewalk. It was with the success of this book, his seventh, that Baum was able to quit his job as a traveling salesman for a glassware company and become a full time author.
