Khaki

                      kak-ee  /  Urdu  / 1855-60

Khaki is the Urdu word for dust. The name was introduced into the English language via the British Indian Army. Over the years, British forces gradually eliminated their classic scarlet tunics for something more camouflaged. In India their uniforms adopted the colour of sand, giving us the ever-popular khaki pants.
